- 1 ½ kg Whole chicken, small to medium, cleaned and trimmed
Choose a bird that fits comfortably in your slow cooker
- 1 whole Yellow onion, cut into chunks(optional)

Vegetables
- 400 g Potatoes, cut into chunks(optional)
Or substitute with carrots or sweet potatoes if preferred

Seasoning
- 1 ½ tbsp Salt, for salting the chicken directly
Use 1–2 tablespoons; apply directly to bird before adding seasoning mix
- 30 ml Olive oil, for coating
Rub over the entire chicken to help seasoning adhere
Seasoning Mix
- 15 ml Paprika, mixed with other seasonings
- 15 ml Italian seasoning, mixed with other seasonings
- 1 ½ tbsp Black pepper, mixed with other seasonings
Use 1–2 tablespoons to taste
- 10 ml Salt, mixed with other seasonings
This is in addition to the salt applied directly to the bird
