If you want a slightly sweet / tangy pork roast without going full-on barbecue, then this recipe is for you. Serve with a side of green beans, potatoes, or a green salad. In fact, you can place potatoes on the bottom of the slow cooker and put the other ingredients on top so that it all looks after itself while you’re busy with other things.


  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs) boneless pork loin roast
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup (250ml 8 fl oz) hot water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Dash of hot sauce, to taste


  1. Place onion slices evenly on bottom of slow cooker. Place pork on top of onion.
  2. In a bowl, mix water, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, pepper, salt, garlic powder, and hot sauce. Pour mixture over top of pork roast.
  3. Cover and cook on Low setting for about 7 hours, or until tender.
