An all-time favourite dish cooked with perfection in slow cooker.


  • 2 lb (900g) raw prawns (shrimp)
  • 15 oz (400g) tinned chopped tomatoes
  • 6 oz (180g) okra sliced
  • 4 bacon slices trimmed (diced)
  • 4 cups fish or light chicken stock
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion chopped finely
  • 1 garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 red capsicum (pepper), seeded and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • cup par cooked long grain rice
  • cup dry sherry


  • Place all the ingredients except for the prawns in a slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on Low for 4 hours. Make sure the rice is fully cooked.
  • Meanwhile, peel the prawns and remove the dark vein. Leave the tails intact. Refrigerate.
  • Place the prawns in the slow cooker and cook for another 15-20 minutes.
  • Transfer into the serving bowls.
  • Serve.
