Pork Orange with Star Anise

Ingredients:
- 4 pork shoulder steaks or 700g (1½lb) boneless spare rib (cut into 3
parts)
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon of sunflower oil
- 2 tablespoons of plain flour
- 3 tablespoons of plum sauce
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 450ml (14fl oz) chicken stock with grated rind and juice of 1 orange
- 3 to 4 whole star anise
- 1 dried or fresh red chilli (cut in half but optional)
- pepper and salt
- grated rind of 1 orange
- steamed green vegetables with mashed potatoes
Steps:
- Preheat the slow cooker as per instruction from the
manufacturer.
- Heat oil in a large sized frying pan, add the pieces of pork and
fry over high heat until browned on all sides.
- Using a spotted spoon, lift the pork out the pan and place to a
plate.
- Add the onion to the pan and fry, stirring for 5 minutes until
browned evenly.
- Add the flour then mix the orange rind and juice, stock, soy
sauce, plum sauce chilli and star anise.
- Season with pepper and salt and bring to boil, stirring.
- Place the pork to the slow cooker pot and pour the sauce over
it.
- Cover with the lid and cook for 8 to 10 hours.
- Sprinkle with grated orange rind and serve with steamed green
vegetables and mashed potatoes.
