Sorry to say, but this recipe was REALLY bland.

I made it again a few weeks later, this time I made my own changes and it was a lot tastier....

I suggest throwing in 3 cloves of squashed garlic while browning the mince. Leave them whole so you can fish them out before serving.

I also added a few dashes of worcestershire sauce, and a bit more of soy sauce into the slow cooker

Finally after 2 hours cooking on high, I added another cup of beef stock, before adding the pasta, otherwise the pasta soaks up any remaining juice and its quite dry.

Cook for 40 minutes on high after that, otherwise the pasta goes mushy like tinned pasta.

Just made a bolognaise in my slow cooker for the first time, low for 4 hours then added pasta twirls with a bit of water and cooked for another hour, and the pasta was perfect. Put grated cheese on the top for about another 15 mins and even nicer!

Not that impressed to be honest, felt it was bland & boring. Needs more flavouring. On the other hand it is really easy to prep & eat.

Hi Jacquie, browning the meat gives an additional depth to the flavors of the dish. The brown meat stock recipe vs the white meat stock recipe is a good example of this.

do I always have to brown the meat/chicken before I use the slow cooker?

the dish was good but the pasta shells were over cooked - 2 hours seems far too long for the pasta!
